ON RISK AND
SETBACKS
"Although we may have our
hands firmly on the wishbone, there is an even chance that in taking any risk
we'll encounter setbacks, which most people refer to as failures. Yet if we see
life as an experiment in which there are no failures only results, our
interpretation of those results will determine how successful we are." - Gregg
Levoy
======================================
Living requires risk. Whether it is going back to school, asking for a
promotion, or venturing in a new direction, there may be problems. Even if you
fail, you'll know you tried. If you never try you'll be faced with "what if" or
"if only" thinking, maybe for the rest of your life.
If you seldom take a risk, ask yourself why. What is the fear? What is the worst
that could happen? Don't make excuses and defeat yourself before you start.
Windows of opportunity don't stay open forever.
What small risk would help you move forward in your life or career? When will
you do it?
The first step is always the most difficult. Make the phone call, write the
letter, buy the book, have the conversation and make a commitment. Take the
necessary risk for your future.

Keep moving. Don't be like Tweedledum in Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking
Glass who said,
"I'm very brave generally, only today I happen to have a headache."
